Start with the right competitors
Choose sites that consistently rank for your target query families, not only companies that compete with you offline.
Look for patterns
Which content types attract links? Which referring domains appear across multiple competitors? Are there recurring resource pages, tools, studies or partnerships?
Qualify opportunities manually
A competitor link is not automatically a link you should pursue. Check relevance, page quality, editorial context and whether the relationship makes sense for your site.
